Focus: Learning strategies to become proficient in understanding READING. 

Through modelling, guided practice, interactive and structured activities, and hands-on exercises keep learners engaged. Encourage active participation through discussions, group activities, and individual practice. 

Reading & Writing Skills and Strategies 

• Understanding Meaning: grasp the main ideas, and identify key events, characters, settings, and plot.
• Making Inferences: begin to infer meaning beyond the text, character traits, motives, and outcomes based on text clues.
• Understanding Text Structure: recognize, identify and understand different text structures.
• Vocabulary Development: build vocabulary and use context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.
• Reading Exercises: learn to identify different reading genres and their elements.
• Reading Response: using sentence structure, grammar, complete thoughts, and descriptive language to respond to text.
• Oral Reading: practice reading text aloud with voice, tone and fluency.
